In the Beginning

Dec 30th, 2006.

The last piece of paperwork has finally been submitted to our agency! Now the waiting begins...

The one thing we thought would not take very long, our FBI Background Check, ended up taking over 11 weeks to come back. Note to others: Be sure to write "Please Expedite: Adoption Background Check" on the outside of the envelope along with the date you need it back by. I would also recommend using the "pay by credit card" option instead of a money order. The form has to be notarized, but at least you will know when your application was processed.

Anyway, when we sent in our fingerprint cards, the FBI web site indicated a 4 week turn-around. Now it is advertising 8-10 weeks and the Customer Service representatives are telling callers 10-12 weeks. Due to the late receipt of our background checks, our package did not go to the translator before she left on a three week trip to Russia, so my guess is that it will be mid-January by the time our application reaches the Kazakhstan Embassy.

Meanwhile, we're back in the "Waiting Patiently" mode...
