Move Over Ladies! This Chocolate is for Men

Just a quick fun post here. We're getting comfortable with the area and shopping. It's actually not too hard once you pick up a few Cyrillic characters. Some products are a direct conversion of the item's English name into Cyrillic.

Of course, some other products help us help ourselves:


These were easy to figure out as was toothpaste










Soup anyone? Literally "Sup" Packets are available for 60 kzt (50 cents) at the open air market next to the Iceberg store








Russian (actually from Hong Kong) peanut butter is passable but expensive. I found this jar in the dairy section and found out later (when I reviewed the receipt) that it was about $6.50! Bring some Jiff if you must have peanut butter.

Here's another good one. The milk carton is in Russian on one side and Kazakh on the other, but the top has opening instructions in English..????






Here's some really good chocolate. It's less than a dollar a bar and is very good.








New Yorkers can take a lesson here. The front door is actually a double door. Outer door is thick steel, but inner door is a nice traditional wood one.

Masha (our translator) says you should always remember to keep the door locked so no one steals your shoes.

I don't know what that's all about, but the mailboxes by the door to the outside have all been broken onto. I've never seen a mail delivery person on the block either...



Ahhhhh! The modern conveniences:

Space-saver shower, toilet, and washing machine. According to label on top, it's only 33 cm deep. Doesn't hold much either, but it's nice to have.

We got a small box of Tide to go with the small washing machine... 8-D

The leaves are changing quickly and beginning to fall.

Workers have pulled up most of the flowers which were dying... I think we had a light frost a couple days ago.




One of the rides in the park (now closed for winter). LB is a TMNT fan and said that it's his favorite ride (the RBS kids had an outing here over the summer)








On Bonding Day #1 we noticed a stack of boxes mailed from the US with a 30 Aug postmark.

















At first, from a distance, I thought these signs were a Jelly-Belly ad. It's really a heart indicating: I Love Petropavlovsk.
